TOWING OF VEHICLES FOR PAST DUE PARKING TICKETS
All vehicles that have at least $100.00 in overdue parking tickets, including late fees, are subject to being impounded. A ticket is late when it remains unpaid for 30 days after it is written.
To reclaim a vehicle if towed, the entire amount past due amount must be paid in cash or by credit card in addition to any applicable towing fee.
The entire balance due should be paid at the Parking Services Customer Service Center at 820 Washington Street, Columbia, SC 29201, located in the Lincoln Street Garage or online at columbiasc.t2hosted.com. Following payment, a vehicle release form must be obtained from the City of Columbia Police Department, 1 Justice Square, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. Police Headquarters is located directly across the street from the Parking Services Customer Center.
**Please note if attempting to retrieve a towed vehicle on Saturday or Sunday, past due tickets may be paid at the Municipal Court at 811 Washington Street or online. The court does not accept payments during the week.
The Police Department will inform you of the specific towing company that has impounded your vehicle. You must report to the appropriate towing company with the paid receipt and the release form to collect your vehicle. You will be responsible for the applicable tow fee charged by that particular towing company at that time. Tow fees charged are usually $125.00, though the City of Columbia offers no guarantee on this amount.
